Tips For a Successful Social Media Marketing Campaign: Part I

Getting onto social media is easy. Becoming popular on social media is a bit of work. But, operating a successful marketing campaign for your business on social media, is much more difficult.

Starting up without any previous experience or insight is challenging.

Here are a few tips and tricks for a successful social media marketing campaign:

Establish Goals

How can one possibly navigate if they are unsure of where they are going?

Simple answer: they can’t.

Alike a GPS, a social media marketing campaign needs direction, it needs to be told where to go. The establishment of clear goals are vital, so as to ensure that progress is being made. Analytics can not be gathered if you don’t know where you started, and don’t have a clear vision of where you are headed.

You need to set defined goals if you want to succeed, otherwise you will find yourself lacking focus and direction. You can not just want things and expect them to happen. Establishing goals allows you to take control, and get where you need to be!

Set ‘SMART’ goals; Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. Your goals should be clearly outlined, analytically measurable, realistic enough to be achieved, relevant to your aspirations, and deadline oriented.

Your goals should begin with brand awareness and end with passionate subscribers. You want your customers to be excited about receiving your marketing. So think about how you will make this happen.

These goals can include, but are not limited to increasing general brand awareness, establishing better customer support, increasing revenue, or optimizing lead generation. Each goal may require a different approach, so keep this in mind!

Manifest a Plan

Know what you want.

Things won’t just happen for you. You need to make them happen.

Those are just the rules. Don’t get upset with me, I don’t make them, I just play by them.

Create your working action plan including milestones, schedules and follow-ups. Remain specific and realistic in your planning phase. Ensure your milestones are measurable, so as to assure you can keep track of your progress. This will provide insight into areas that require improvement.

Separating your work into landmarks also gives you a sense of accomplishment before your overall goal is achieved, as reaching each point gives you a feeling of success, which refreshes motivation!

Identify Targets

Although it could be argued that it is easier to market to the masses, narrowing down your efforts to focus on a targeted audience can assist you in optimizing your ROI.

Who is your target market, how will you identify them and why will you target them? Where do they spend their time? What do they do? Where is their online presence?  Is your product intended for a business or an individual?

Identify this persona.

What are their motivators to buy? Are they purchasing for themselves, or purchasing on behalf of their enterprise?

Figure this out, it is critical. You can appeal to this!

If you do not focus on targeting your efforts strategically, then your efforts will be rendered haphazard.  So, as such, this phase should involve the implementation of systems which are strategic in nature and intended to remove indiscrimination from your marketing endeavours.

You must be able to clearly and concisely define the problems that you solve, the solutions that you offer, or the products that you promote. Create an image of the type of person that requires your solutions. Define who will find value in the offer you provide.

Establish a set of successive filters, and move your potential targets through this funnel until you arrive at your ideal. Seek out any data available that may be helpful.

This will assist in establishing your buyer persona. By knowing the type of person you are after, it is easier to acquire them, and ultimately convert them. In order to maximize returns, while minimizing efforts, your focus must remain sharp.
